Here is some information concerning Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the United States.
  • TBI is a contributing factor in 30.5% of all injury related deaths in the U.S.
  • Children 0-4 yrs, 15-19 yrs and adults 65+ are most likely to sustain a TBI.
  • Adults 75+ have the highest rate of TBI related hospitalization and death.
  • TBI rates are higher for males and males aged 0-4yrs have the highest rate of TBI.
  • Motor-vehicle traffic injury is the leading cause of TBI-related death.
The simple act of wearing a helmet has been shown to reduce the risk of injury from 22-60%. And, in other studies it was estimated that 85% of head injuries could be prevented with the use of a helmet.

Dr. Pagano recommends that helmets be worn by all for activities such as skiing, snow boarding and bicycling.
